Tachi Kanagushi Tsuba

Superb little yamagane koshigatana tsuba in the form of a regular Muromachi tachi tsuba.  The plate is richly coloured and glossy.  The plate is textured by numerous large, flower-like punch marks.  Four small inome sukashi are placed in the correct positions at the intersection of the 4 lobes of the tsuba.  The plate is still partially covered by black lacquer.  The hitsuana is an early style common in the mid Muromachi and seen most often on iron guards of the Onin group.

In some cases it is difficult to express through the scans and descriptions the quality of a tsuba -- this is one such case.  This is an elegant small tsuba and would be a welcome addition to any early soft metal collection.
