Brass Tsuba
Tachi kanagushi shinchu (brass) tsuba with decoration of clouds, waves and inlaid dew drops. The mimi is carved in a rope pattern and exhibits user wear. The plate surface is covered with a multitude of minute tool marks, clearly being applied purposefully -- I have never before seen such fine markings purposely done, as they are smaller than the finest nunome. This level of detail, the crisply executed plate motif and overall pleasing composition suggest that this was a piece made on special request, and well reflects the new aesthetic as well as wealth of the latest 16th c.
