Shakudo Moon and Waves Fuchi Signed Yukimitsu

Small shakudo orphaned fuchi for use on a tanto. Katakiribori undulating waves are engaved into the shakudo surface
representing a moonlit ocean-scape. Dancing over/within the waves, is a silver inlayed crescent moon of high relief.
Two characters located on the tenjo gane (copper underplate) read Yukimitsu. Paper "packing" still lines the fuchi's
interior surface. Simple design and serene beauty make this a classic attestation to the Japanese artisan.
There were no less than fifteen artists using the name Yukimitsu. However, only one is noted to have used these specific
characters. Wakayama lists this Yukimitsu as working in the Hamano style around 1800. Unfortunately, little else is known
about this artist. It cannot be said for certain if this fuchi is Hamano, as it also exhibits Yokoya School traits.

Late Edo Period, ca. 1800.
