Akoda Nari Kabuto
ERA: Muromachi Period
STYLE:12 Plate Akoda Nari kabuto with Itamono shikoro (Hampo and Large
Maedate included but not pictured)
REGION:Central Honshu
SCHOOL: Haruta
Here is a very beautifully preserved example of an akodanari kabuto. it is
completely in deep dark russet iron patina. The hachi is completely a Muromachi
period akoda nari and has the original koshimaki (bottom plate wrap) which many
akodas have lost due to the changing styles of the shikoro in the years
following the era in which akoda nari kabuto were produced. The current itamono
(solid plate) shikoro is a modern addition which was likely done by Nishioka
sensei (one of the top three armor smiths in Japan). Unfortunately I forgot to
add a picture of the very nice hampo and Maedate that are included with this
kabuto. The maedate is a big folding gilt copper crescent moon. This kabuto has
been in several of the top collections in Japan including members of the shinsa
team.
