O-Sode

ERA: Muromachi (restored Edo)

STYLE: Hon Kozane o-sode

REGION: Nara

SCHOOL: Haruta, Likely Iwai

PAPERS: Koshu Tokubetsu NKBKHK (second Highest)

Here is a nice pair of Muromachi era O-sode in good restored condition. The kozane are rather small, and the fittings are very well done Muromachi period examples. This work is indicative of hon kozane O-sode that were produced in close proximity to Nara and Kyoto in the latter Muromachi period. Sometime during the latter Edo period somebody saw fit to replace the original lacing which was likely in tatters, with doe skin lacing which has been printed with a falling cherry blossom pattern. This set of sode was awarded Koshu Tokubetsu papers from the Japanese Armor Society (NKBKHK). The papers reflect that these O-Sode are Muromachi period restored in Edo. They rightfully deserve Juyo rating and may obtain it depending on the year they are submitted. These Sode come with a custom made Kiri wood box that was made in the Edo period.
