Scroll Painting
This is a nice late Edo period scroll painting of a Heian-Kamakura battle
scene of two samurai. I believe that this scene is the beach scene where one
of Minamoto Yoshitsune’s samurai shot the fan off the top of mast of a Taira
clan ship. The archer prepares an arrow as the general makes ready the order
to fire. This scroll is VERY large. The details of the painting are
excellent, with vibrant colors. Overall condition is good, with no tears in
the painting, and only a slight tear at the top where it joins to the wood
support. This is easily fixed and is not part of the actual paper that the
painting is on. The scroll rolling pin is made of a dark stained wood
possibly mahogany or ebony.
