Tehen Kanamono
Here is a very interesting large tehen kanamono.
I believe it to be a very early piece that was successively reused
for a long time, before being removed and displayed on its own. The
size is very large, and the style is something we would expect to
see on an early kabuto. It is made of three parts composed of su-aka
(red copper); the base, the anchor, and the decorative washer. It
can be seen by the broad cut-out in the front, that this was
originally on a kabuto that had shinodare and was most likely of the
“dai enzan” style. The underside has a nice dark green patina, as
would be expected on a piece dating to early periods. The anchor
piece has had the prongs bent to remove it from the kabuto and then
folded back flush with the anchor plate for current display.
Very hard to place this out of context with a kabuto, so safer to
assign a broad but plausible age range. A very nice
conversation and study piece. This comes with a custom box.
