KO KATCHUSHI TSUBA
The motif of this early iron tsuba is an austere, yet complex and
delicately carved pattern of symmetrical geometric cutouts around the
center. Common to this period the outer circle of sukashi
elements is double that of the inner circle - 16 and 8 respectively.
Likely this represents a Buddhist motif of some sort. This tsuba
has a very nice dark brownish black patina. Though the walls of the
sukashi are delicate, they all remain strong and intact. There is
one hitsu ana which is likely a later addition. This tsuba has a
very gentle but noticeable taper from the center to the rim.
Included is a form-fitted presentation box with protective pillow.
This piece has all the elements so desired in early iron pieces, and is
offered at a great price, so don't miss it.
