DESCRIPTION:
Here is an excellent example of a fighting yari from the late 1400s-mid 1500s (Muromachi Period). Though not overly robust, this yari was made for fighting. The hamon is suguha with spots of visible nie present. The base of the blade (hamachi) is thick and robust in proportion to the blade and is thick where it joins to the tang. The tang has been shortened long ago probably due to the yari being fitted to a shorter pole as was common in the Edo period. The shortening no doubt accounts for the two holes being present in the tang. This yari is in very good polish with a couple very small areas of very light red rust. There is absolutely no pitting but there are some specs of carbon. It looks like this yari has a grain possibly mokume and itame, but it would take a better polish to bring it out. The polish is over 90% as I stated earlier you can see nie, but it could use a touch up. It comes with a newer kiri saya and the original Japanese registration card.
